Vision on wheels – Nellore, Andhra Pradesh

This baby from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, born to underprivileged parents who eke out a living as fruitsellers, developed a severe form of Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), a blinding disease affecting preterm babies. As Laser and Intraocular injections did not suffice, it underwent lens sparing vitrectomy in both the eyes under general anaesthesia at Radhatri Nethralaya

The baby’s vision has been completely restored due to the timely surgery.

The baby was picked up on screening by Project Vision on Wheels, the rural teleophthalmology project of Radhatri Nethralaya, under the aegis of Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation, the public charitable trust of Radhatri Nethralaya, which has screened more than 1,50,000 babies all over rural Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh for ROP.

The surgeries were done free of cost thanks to the support from HCL Foundation.
